27 Jun 2022 - 01 Jul 2022
The 2022 UN Ocean Conference (UNOC 2022), co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, will take place from 27 June to 1 July in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Conference comes at a critical time when the world is seeking to address many of the deep-rooted societal problems that were laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic and which require major structural transformations and shared solutions, that are anchored in the SDGs, to solve them. To mobilize action, the Conference seeks to propel much-needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at starting a new chapter of global ocean action.
The overall theme of the Conference is: “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions.” And, presenters will look at solutions for a sustainably managed ocean involving green technology and innovative uses of marine resources. They also include solutions addressing the threats to health, ecology, economy and governance of the ocean - acidification, marine litter and pollution, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, and the loss of habitats and biodiversity.
On Tuesday 28 June, the "One Sustainable Ocean: Ocean Science & Business2Sea” umbrella event and one of the official side events of the UNOC 2022 will take place in Lisbon. This free event is organized by the Lisbon City Council, Fórum Oceano, Science and Technology Foundation and the University of Lisbon, among other entities, and is focused on the ocean future, sustainability, circular economy, and innovation, totally aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life below water. MISSION ATLANTIC will be showcased at this event, starting at 2 pm (local time).
