PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT! Specific Dates, Key Speakers and Registration details to follow soon!

Focusing on Integrated Ecosystem Assessment (IEA) as a tool to progress ecosystem-based management (EBM), the symposium will directly engage the ICES Ecosystems Approaches and Methods Steering Group and NOAA IEA practitioners, while showcasing developments from international projects such as Mission Atlantic, providing pathways to integration and implementation to meet the needs of ICES Science and Advisory Plans and the challenges of EBM.

Combining keynote presentations, parallel sessions, and Q&A sessions, the symposium will facilitate international, inter-institutional, and cross-disciplinary communication while encouraging the development of networks and the sharing of knowledge with the aim of improving the effective use of integrated assessments for marine ecosystem management. The symposium supports the implementation of the ICES Science Plan (2025) and Framework for Ecosystem Informed Science and Advice (FEISA, 2024), multiple national and international ecosystem-based management mandates, and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

The IEA Symposium is relevant to ICES Science Plan (2025; marine ecosystem science, impact of human activities, observation and exploration of the seas and ocean), the FEISA framework, and to the development of actionable ecosystem and climate-informed advice (ICES Advisory Plan, 2025).
