Since its first edition in 2022, the Mission Atlantic Mobility Call has fostered international collaboration, supported ground-breaking ocean research, and promoted knowledge exchange among researchers, students, and professionals tackling challenges in the Atlantic Ocean. As the second call for 2024 is now open, let’s look back at the successes of previous editions.
Over the past two years, 21 participants have been awarded grants through the program, representing diverse backgrounds and career stages. These include:
- 11 PhD students,
- 4 researchers,
- 3 post-doctoral researchers,
- 2 BSc/MSc students, and
- 1 professional.
Brazil has been a key player, standing out as the most subsidized country, reflecting its importance in Atlantic research.
The initiative has achieved notable strides in gender equity, with 72% of the participants being women. By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, the Mission Atlantic Mobility Call not only ensures equal access to opportunities but also enriches the research process with varied perspectives and expertise.
The grantees have been hosted by leading institutions such as the Stockholm University, University of Strathclyde, and others, contributing to the program's mission of interdisciplinary research. Their work spans a wide range of case studies, addressing critical areas such as the South Mid-Atlantic Ridge (5 contributions), Benguela Current (4), and South Brazilian Ridge (3), along with others in the Norwegian Sea, North Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Canary Current, and Celtic Sea.
With the second call of 2024 now open, this is an exciting opportunity for aspiring candidates to join this impactful program. The deadline for applications is 20th December 2024, offering a chance to be part of a growing network dedicated to sustainable management of the Atlantic Ocean.
