At the One Ocean Science Congress 2025 in Nice, Sarina Lincoln presented her Swedish–South African collaborative research conducted under MISSION ATLANTIC. The study explores the impacts of offshore oil and gas development in South Africa, where expansion has proceeded despite limited understanding of environmental and cross-sectoral effects. Using Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) modeling, the research integrates expert knowledge and available data to assess trade-offs between offshore oil and gas and other ocean sectors. Expert interviews also inform the identification of structural "lock-in" effects that may hinder sustainable blue economy transitions. This work aims to address a key research gap by providing socio-ecological insights and scenario tools within the Integrated Ecosystem Assessment (IEA) in MISSION ATLANTIC, to support more informed ocean management in data-limited contexts.
